Understanding EMF's: It's Dangers and Effective Strategies for Reduction
Did you know that in 2015 France banned WIFI from childcare centres and schools to help reduce children under 6’s exposure to radiation. Other countries who are starting to say no to WIFI include Belgium, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. Interesting right? When you look at the many thousands of peer-reviewed studies that have come out, and continue to come out, raising some alarming facts about the dangers of items such as cell phones, tablets and our use of Wi-Fi, its not so surprising.
Having WIFI is a convenience and luxury we have all become very used to and in this day and age most of us rely on it whether that be to work, learn, keep in touch with family or for pleasure (watching Netflix, using instagram etc) In saying that there are things we can do which will help to reduce our exposure and health risks associated with EMF/radiation. I have listed some examples below:
Mobile phones - Use speaker mode on calls. Don’t keep it in your pocket. Use wired headphones (avoid AirPods or similar). Put it on airplane mode when not in use. Don’t charge phone in your room overnight. Keep bluetooth off when it's not needed.
Baby monitors - Keep it at least 1 meter away from the babies bed. Avoid using it altogether if you’re comfortable with that. Don’t have the cot/beds on the same wall as PowerPoints if you can.
Microwaves - Throw it away. If you must keep one, do not stand in-front or close to it when in use. Use the stove or oven instead when cooking/reheating food.
TV’s - Sit far enough away from it, atleast 3 meters or more. Many TV’s these days are smart TV’s and are connected to the internet.
Wifi Routers - Turn them off at night, or whenever not in use. Having WIFI switched off at night will give your body a good 8 or so hours break from being exposed to it. You can also buy a timer from Bunnings so it switches off automatically at a set time and comes back on at a set time each day. Use an Ethernet cable.
Laptop/Computers - Don’t have it sitting on your lap when in use. Turn off when not in use. Use an EMF blocking blanket when using your laptop.
iPad’s/Tablets - If kids are watching movies / tv shows - download the show so they can watch it on airplane mode. Invest in EMF blocking blankets / stickers. Don’t let them have the iPads on their lap. Have it sitting on a table/bed instead.
Wifi Devices - e.g Alexa, Google Home etc. Avoid using them. Turn off when not in use.
Indoor Plants - They help absorb EMF’s. My top choices would be: Cactus, Snake Plant, Spider Plant, Fiddle Leaf, Aloe Vera & Rubber Plant. Have them situated near your computer, WIFI router or other items that produce high levels of EMF’s.
Earthing/Grounding - This is walking barefoot on the ground, it will help to mitigate EMF damage. It can be done on grass and also at the beach on the sand. As little as 30 minutes grounded will show internal changes and benefits. Ideally we would be earthing 24/7, but daily life gets in the way, so if you're able to do at least 10 or more minutes a day this will be a great starting point.
Essential Oils - There are some well researched essential oils and blends that can help to protect us from the damages of EMF exposure. These include doTERRA Balance, Rosemary, DDR Prime (DNA Damage Repair - This one is a must!), Frankincense, Basil, Melissa, Rose, DDR Prime Softgels and the Lifelong Vitality Supplements. Incorporating some or a few of these oils or supplements into yours and your families daily routines can be very beneficial. You can rub them on your spine or soles of feet.
Some more helpful tips: Do not use your phone with wifi enabled, next to your baby’s head whilst breast feeding/bottle feeding or walking with a carrier – A quick check is fine, but it is advised to not use for long periods and too often. Instead enjoy some quiet meditation/breath work, read a book, do some journalling or watch some TV, sitting a good 3 metres from the screen when breastfeeding.
EMF exposure can have a significant impact on our immune system, cellular health, endocrine function and our nervous system. Babies and children are even more at risk as they’re young and still developing. Some side effects of EMF exposure are known to include:
- Sleep issues, including insomnia
- Headaches/dizziness
- Depression
- Fatigue
- Lack of concentration
- Learning/memory problems
- Behaviour issues
- Restlessness, irritability, anxiety
- Nausea
- Low Libido
- Cancer and tumours
- Neurological problems like Alzheimer’s disease
- Damage to DNA and genes
- Risk of heart damage
You can also invest in some EMF blankets, stickers etc. I have personally purchased EMF protection blankets from Radiasmart which we use whenever using iPads/laptops and even phones for extended periods. Link below:

It’s important not to panic but we should definetly be cautious – especially as large countries are taking action (e.g France). Incorporating some of these small steps listed above will make a big impact. The best approach is to be aware that EMFs exist and to be smart about our exposure.
